Paw Print on-line is the web version of the Big Spring High School newspaper. Students enrolled in the year-long Newspaper course are responsible for generating, editing, and publishing informative and entertaining pieces for the school and wider community.

In addition to posting to this site, the staff plans to produce eight hard copy print editions throughout the year for distribution in the high school.

This year’s staff is comprised of eleven students in grades ten through twelve. Our only seasoned staff member is senior Ashton Rathgeber, who served with the paper as a freshman when the newspaper was a print edition only. Other senior students on the staff include James Burgett, Brandi Carpenter and Marilyn McGann. Juniors staff members are Kathleen Lay, Erica Weller, Erin Napoli, Travis Gilbert and Douglas Kennedy. Tiffany Dearth and Alexandra “Sasha” Furman are the sophomore staffers.

The newspaper, both on-line and in print, is a public forum and welcomes the comments and contributions of students, staff, the larger school community and readers everywhere.

All content, including letters to the editor, is subject to laws governing obscenity, libel, privacy and disruption of the school process.

Letters to the editor, and on-line comments are welcomed. On-line comments, which must be viewed by the staff before posting, should identify the author and grade, if applicable. Letters to the editor must be signed and the staff reserves the right to edit letters for grammar and clarity.

Comments, letters to the editor, and story ideas or written submissions may be made by clicking the comment feature on-line, through e-mail at pawprint@bigspring.k12.pa.us or by placing items in the folders on the bulletin board outside room 339.

Any newspaper serves four basic functions: to inform, to entertain, to persuade, and to give a voice to the public. The Paw Print staff pledges to work hard to bring you informative and entertaining pieces. And we won’t be afraid to speak our mind through what we hope are thoughtful editorials. But the fourth function, to give a voice to those who might otherwise not be heard, requires the involvement of the school and community.

Please join us in producing a school newspaper in which we can all be proud.

    Adviser Mrs. Lisa Yinger
