The 09-10 marching band has been undefeated so far this year. In all of the five competitions that they have had they have been successful in claiming victory in each one. Among these competitions lies the Championships. Some could say that the marching band has been winning by sheer luck, but I have learned about the true success of the marching band.
The first component of the marching band’s success is who is involved in marching band. Everyone in the marching band is in 9th-12th grade. 98% of the marching band is made up of indoor band students. Only 5 people in the marching band aren’t in concert band or any other band, and that includes guard.
Now for a little history on marching band. Marching band was formed from a tradition that has “evolved” from a military practice and game half times. Marching band is judged on the artistic and musicality of the band. When a member of marching band has gone through a couple of competitions they start to feel like a family with the other members.
Marching band is just as strict as any sport. Marching band has a very tight schedule where they try to fit in enough practices so that they are competition worthy. Our marching band meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. On Fridays when there are football games, our marching band will practice from 4-6 p.m. They will then take a dinner break, and then they move on to playing at the game. Saturdays all depend on the competition schedule. The marching band normally practices from 3-5 and most of the competitions are at night. Marching band practices in parking lot 5-D, except for when it’s raining, then the marching band practices inside the gym.
All in all every single one of these components are what pay tribute to the great success we have seen in this marching band season.
