CNN prisoners in Guantanamo Bay

In the past year the numbers of released detainees from Guantanamo Bay that have returned to their old terrorists ways has increased from 14% to 20%. There have been about 530 prisoners that have been released from Guantanamo Bay from 2002 until last year. Of those 530, 27 were confirmed to have return to terrorist activity and about 47 were suspected of terrorist activities. One of the released detainees Abu Sufyan al-Shihri is now confirmed as one of the leaders of Al-Qaeda. This is one example of why the terrorists should not be released from prison. The number of released detainees returning to terrorist activity is increasing and it is not looking like it is going to get better any time soon. This is not a very good trend, and clearly something needs to be changed or else the number of released detainees returning to terrorism will increase.
A change needs to be made about the amount of time the detainee has to spend in prison. If they have to face a longer sentence, maybe even a life sentence then they would not be able to return to terrorism. Terrorism is not a crime that should be taken lightly. “They shouldn’t even be let out of prison” says senior Tim Bonnar. If we let them out of prison we are just giving them another chance to return to their sickening old ways, creating plots to kill innocent people.
There are still a lot of detainees in Guantanamo Bay that were suppose to be sent home but their journey home has been halted. The reason they haven’t been sent home is because of the attempted holiday bombing. Half of the remaining detainees are from Yemen, and Yemen supposedly had ties with the attempted bombing. Therefore it is not necessarily the best idea to send more terrorists back to their home country where plots to kill innocent people are being made.
