Students wanting to receive the upper hand in education now have the option to participate in AP, Honors or Pre AP courses. Advanced classes that are currently being offered are: Pre-AP English 1 and 2, Pre-AP Pre Calculus, AP statistics, Honors Chemistry,  Honors Spanish 3, Honors US History and others.

“I take Pre-AP and honors classes so that I can challenge myself and also to make my college transcript look better,” sophomore Seth Robinson said.

According to collegedata.com, one benefit of taking an honors class is gaining an edge in the college admissions process. College scouts looks for students who take classes that demand hard work and determination. Also in some AP classes students have the opportunity to earn college credits. For example, if one were to take an AP class and excel on the comprehension exam one would earn credits from that test for college.  Another benefit in taking an AP or honors class is that it will raise one’s GPA, since these classes are on a 5.0 classes.

“I am currently taking four advanced classes because they will help me succeed in life,” freshman Philip Halpern said.

According to gallup.com, currently 50 percent of students in high school are taking AP or honors classes. Also 62 percent of students who are planning to attend college full time are taking an AP course.

“I think the different in taking an advanced class over a standard is that I would not learn as much and I would not be able to reach my full potential,” Halpern said.

So for some students attending AP, Honors or Pre-AP classes could be beneficial but only if students are willing to break a sweat and work hard.
