Golf

            Tahlequah High School’s golf teams lately have held the school’s attention; both teams have succeeded greatly this past season. Both girl’s and boy’s golf gained fifth place in their regional competition, placing the young golfers at state.

            Boy’s golf, lead by Coach Nick Baker attained two 18-hole scores of 329 and 327, qualifying the team for fifth place at the East Regional Tournament at Tahlequah’s own Cherry Springs Golf Course. Tahlequah hosted regionals May 3rd at Cherry Springs; T-Quah’s team left with an overall score of 656. The team’s place earned them a spot at the 5A state tourney located at Emerald Falls Golf Course in Broken Arrow. The THS boy’s golf team includes Heath Pennington 12, Chase Reed 12, Travis Tinnin 11, Ryne Frank 11 and Blade Girdner 9. The Tigers played May 10th and 11th at the state championship.

            The girl’s golf season was just as good as the guys; the Tigers earned fifth place at the McAlester Country Club Tournament on April 27. With a team score of 414, Coach Mike Clayborn took his athletes to the state tournament at Silverhorn Golf Course in Oklahoma City. Sara Corn 12, Bailee Baker 11, Mikal Yahola 9, Emily Pippin 9 and Casey Beaston 9 make up the ladies golf team at THS. They played at the OKC 5A state tourney May 5th and 6th.

                                                  Track
            Track boys’ and girls’ teams finish a successful season by placing at state, reminding the student body of school pride.

            At Oklahoma 5A girls’ track state hosted by East Central High School, some members of the team placed. Freshman Jessica Hembree took second place in both the 800 meter and 1600 meter run. In the 4x400 meter relay, the team placed six. Freshman Kacie Elliott took fourth in shot put.

            The guys placed at their state meet as well. Junior Moe Brown won state in two events, 800 meter and 4x800 meter relay. Junior Tim Justice placed sixth in the 400 meter dash. In the 600 meter run, freshman Ara Poteete took sixth place. Junior Patrick Krempin placed sixth in discus.This ended the team ranked fourth in the state.   

                                            Baseball
            Although the baseball team didn't have their best season, they had two wins. On March 4, the tigers won their first game of the season (10-5) against Skiatook. Their second win, April 19, was against Catoosa. The tigers won (4-3).

                                            Tennis
            The tiger and lady tiger tennis team, under Coach Tyler Ashley, made the trip to Oklahoma City this year to compete at state.

            The girl’s tennis team has had a good season this year. They made school history when they finished in third place at the 5A state championship, and when they won the regional. The team also had success when they won the Metro Lakes conference and beat Bishop Kelley.

            The boy’s tennis team had a successful season. The team accomplished their goal this year when they got all the members of the team to the Class 5A state tennis tournament. While at state, the team exceeded expectations by making it to the second day of the tournament. The team made state history when they became the Class 5A Academic Champions for the sixth year in a row.

                                    Slow Pitch
    Slow pitch ended the season with a record of 32-7. They also made their 17th straight appearance at state, losing in second round to Westmoore.

                                     Soccer
    The boys' soccer team made it to state this year.
