The new renovations at Offutt Field have caused some problems with mobility while trying to move up and down the field. Namely, one is not permitted to cross through the reserved section of the bleachers to get to the opposite side. This problem, seemingly minor, has upset many students and fans alike.

Earlier in the season, I passed through this section once during a game to sing the Alma Mater. Little did I know that the next time I visited the reserved bleachers I would be greeted by a security guard telling me he could not let me pass through.

I thought to myself, this is ridiculous. A season pass holder is permitted to walk across the bleachers, but a person with a regular ticket is not. If the district wishes to keep this rule, there should be an alternate path on the same side of the field to get across. Currently there is no way to pass through on the reserved side.

I began to notice that this rule has completely separated the high school fans from the middle school students. The middle school trend used to be circling around the walkway for the duration of the game. However, with the newly installed reserved section this is not possible. Middle schoolers now crowd around the scoreboard entrance, while high schoolers typically gather on the opposite side in the student section, splitting the students in half.

Another option is to take the obstructions from the normal walkway down so students can walk on the path around the field like they used to. There is no reason that the side should be blocked off completely as it is now.

Not allowing students to pass through also causes major traffic problems when the band is moving from their section of the bleachers to the field for the halftime show. A problem is caused because students have no other way around to the other side and have to wait while the band marches onto the field.

I think that this is a simple problem to solve, and if administrators would take a look at it, they would see that allowing students to either pass through the bleachers or walkway would make walking a more pleasant experience for everyone.
